Lagos State Neighbourhood Safety Corps parades 19 cultists terrorising Ibeju - Lekki
Lagos State Neighbourhood Safety Corps has paraded 19 suspected cult members renowned for causing mayhem and unrest for residents of Sapati town, in Ibeju-Lekki Local Council Development Area of the State.
The Chairman of the Agency and a retired Deputy Inspector General of Police, DIG Israel Ajao said that the arrest of the cult members was in continuation of the efforts of the State government to rid Lagos of criminal activities through the cooperation of community leaders and public-spirited individuals at the grassroots.
Speaking specifically on the arrest of the 19 cult members, the Chairman commended the community leaders of the area for giving useful hints which led to the eventual arrest of the cult members between 12 midnight and 2 am last week Thursday.
In his words, “As you can see there are marks of incision and initiation on different parts of their body, some of them belong to the Eye fraternity, some are members of ‘Omije’ meaning that their victims must always shed tears while others belong to several other cult groups. Virtually all of them engage in the use of cannabis; you can just imagine the havoc they would have caused over time but we will not relent in our own efforts to salvage Lagos neighbourhoods”.
He assured Lagos residents that the Agency remains resolute to vigorously enforce its “Operation clear the neighbourhood of miscreants”, and urged other community leaders across the State to complement the job of officials of the Agency through the provision of intelligence information for necessary action.
“When interrogation session is completed, we will hand them over to the police for other necessary actions and am telling you that together with the police and other security agencies, we will put an end to these unscrupulous practices in Lagos State”, he stated.
One of the arrested cult members, Abogunloko Lawal who was arrested alongside three of his brothers confessed being a member of the Eye cult but claimed that he was deceived to join the group in 2015 without knowledge of what it entails.
