'Better than Pogba' Man United fans react to rumours of shock swoop for Arsenal contract rebel
Manchester United are one of the favourites to sign Arsenal midfielder Jack Wilshere according to bookmakers, with the England international out of contract this summer.
The Old Trafford side have reportedly joined the likes of Juventus in the race for Wilshere, with the Italian club making an enquiry - according to The Mirror.
But despite receiving an opening contract offer from Arsenal, with a reduced basic salary and one which is heavily incentivised, the 26-year-old is ready to sign a new deal to stay at the Emirates Stadium.
Wilshere is free to speak to foreign clubs regarding a pre-contract, and Juve and Serie A rivals AC Milan have been linked in the past.
But the Gunners midfielder has reiterated that he wants to remain in North London.
Speaking in December to Sky Sports, he said: "I definitely want to be here. I'm enjoying my football and I love playing in the Premier League now and I want to help Arsenal get to where they should be.
"We just have to sort things out and I'm sure that will happen in the next couple of weeks and it will be sorted."
Bookmakers claim Juventus are the favourites to land Wilshere this summer, but United are also in the running for the playmaker.
BetStars spokesman Ian Marmion said: "Serie A champions Juventus have set their sights on Arsenal star Jack Wilshere as the man to rejuvenate their midfield, after the Italian giants cooled their interest in signing Liverpool’s Emre Can.
"Despite Wilshere forcing his way back into Arsene Wenger’s starting XI after overcoming injury, Juve are determined to get their man and the Old Lady are valued at 6/1 to swipe the 26-year-old playmaker from the Gunners.
"Manchester United could make a shock swoop for the Arsenal midfielder as a long-term successor for Michael Carrick in the centre of the park at Old Trafford.
"The Red Devils can be backed at 8/1 to become the England international’s next club, while Bournemouth are the outsiders at 25/1 to bring their former loan star back to the south coast on a permanent deal."
