Pioneering Christian Singer Del Delker Dies at Age 93



Lifelong Southern California Resident and Seventh-day Adventist SharedHer Musicand Faithin 15 Different Languages

Feb. 2, 2018 / PRZen / THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. -- Del Delker, who helped pioneer the genre of Christian music in the late 1940s and may have been best known for her five decades of musical ministry on the long-running Voice of Prophecy telecast, died on Wed., Jan. 31, in Porterville, Calif.

Delker's award-winning musical career began in 1947 when she joined the Voice of Prophecy as a secretary and musician. Despite her lack of formal training, she blossomed in her role and by 1948 had learned to sing in Spanish. Later Delker learned to sing in Vietnamese and 12 other languages, sharing the Seventh-day Adventist church'sand her ownlove of Jesus Christ in dozens of countries around the world, including the Philippines, Australia, and Brazil.

By 1951 Delker was finishing her first of more than 40 albums. In 1958 she graduated from La Sierra University with a Bachelor of Arts degree, after which she devoted her life to a ministry of music, including her work with the Voice of Prophecy. She was a favorite artist at Seventh-day Adventist camp meetings and convocations, and she frequently collaborated with other musicians and groups.

"Del Delker was a revered and treasured ambassador for the Seventh-day Adventist church, helping to reach many thousands of people with our positive Christ-centered messages," said Ted Benson, treasurer of the Pacific Union Conference of Seventh-day Adventists and a long-time friend of Delker.

Though she retired in 1990, Delker continued to travel and perform as her health permitted.
