25-YEAR-OLD FORWARD AGREES TO JOIN MANCHESTER UNITED
Manchester United have been strongly linked with a move for Paris Saint-Germain fringe player Lucas Moura over the past couple of weeks.
The Brazilian has been out-of-favour under Unai Emery this season, playing just 72 minutes of Ligue 1 action across five substitute appearances this season.
We reported on Monday that Lucas Moura had rejected offers from other clubs because he wants to join Manchester United.
Today, Italian newspaper Gazzetta are reporting that the Brazilian has now agreed to sign for us.
It has previously been reported that the right forward is on Jose Mourinho’s shortlist and that we could land the 25-year-old as early as this month.
The report in Gazzetta goes on claim that Lucas wants to make a permanent switch to us but that we have not reached an agreement with Paris Saint-Germain.
With the World Cup at the end of the season Lucas will be keen to push through a transfer this month as he seeks first team football in order to guarantee his place on the plane to Russia.
Lucas joined PSG for £38 million five years ago but the signings of Neymar, Kylian Mbappe and Angel Di Maria in recent seasons have seen the talented dribbler drop down the pecking order in the French capital.
So far this season Jose Mourinho has predominately gone with Juan Mata down the right wing, though the boss is not a big fan of the Spaniard. Mourinho has also tried Henrikh Mkhitaryan, Jesse Lingard and Marcus Rashford in this position but with no success.
Should we be successful and sign Lucas this month he would be eligible to play in the knockout stages of this season’s Champions League as he has not played for Paris Saint-Germain in this season’s competition.
Various reports suggest we’ll need to agree a fee between £35-40 million with the runaway French Ligue 1 leaders, which in today’s market is nothing.
Lucas Moura offers pace, flair and a love for running at defenders down the wing. He is both a goalscorer and a playmaker.
