Deal done — Arsenal confirm transfer agreement for 13-goal star winger
Arsenal have confirmed the arrival of Henrikh Mkhitaryan from Old Trafford in a swap agreement for Alexis Sanchez. The Armenia international joins the Gunners after an 18-month spell with the Red Devils, where he managed 13 goals across all competitions.
Mkhitaryan struggled to find a regular role in the United lineup following the defeat at Chelsea back in November, and his future therein came under question with Jose Mourinho at times opting to leave him from the matchday squad altogether.
With United having pursued Sanchez earlier this month, it became evident that Mkhitaryan’s gametime would be restricted even further, and he has now made the switch to the Gunners on a long-term contract with wages of around £200,000-a-week.
“I’m very happy that we could finish this deal and I’m very happy to be here. It’s a dream come true because I’ve always dreamed of playing for Arsenal. Now that I’m here, I’ll do my best for this club to create history.” he told Arsenal’s official website.
Mkhitaryan is ineligible to feature in the League Cup semi-final in midweek owing to his participation for United earlier in the campaign, and he may have to wait until a week on Tuesday, where the Gunners take on Swansea City in the Premier League.
The Armenian’s departure helped United push through a deal for Alexis Sanchez ahead of their nearest rivals Manchester City, but we wish him the best with his new employers, though he should not come to haunt Manchester United in the future.
