Boost for Manchester United in pursuit of £442million star forward: report
According to Diario Gol, Manchester United have been given a boost in their bid to sign Real Madrid forward Marco Asensio, with the Spanish forward considering his future at the Santiago Bernabeu.
Reports in Spain suggest Asensio will leave Real if Zinedine Zidane remains as manager, as the 22-year-old has struggled for playing time under the Frenchman this season.
Asensio, who joined Real from Espanyol in Real Mallorca in 2015, has managed only 10 La Liga starts this season. He’s still behind the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo and Gareth Bale in the pecking order, and might have to seek out a move for more minutes as a result.
Manchester United, Manchester City, Tottenham Hotspur and Bayern Munich are four sides reportedly keen on the eight-cap star, but Real might not allow the forward to leave, according to Spanish journalist Eduardo Inda.
He said on El Chiringuito TV: “Asensio has offers from Bayern, City and United but Real declares he is untransferable,” reports the Express. Asensio has a huge £442m release clause in his current contract.
The forward might be unhappy, but he’s still considered a valuable asset and is contracted until 2023, which could prove a stumbling block in United’s alleged bid to sign him.
Asensio has started only one of Real’s last seven games, having been afforded second-half cameo appearances and being an unused substitute this year.
